June 13 is her 100th Birthday Anniversary!
“The romance and history of wine is peopled with heroes and heroines… There are scoundrels and saints, stories of plodders, and dreams of visionaries, a scoop of laughter, a lot of sweat and a good smattering of tears in the decades of wine history in California…”
-from Millie’s Wine Words column
Millie Howie wrote a weekly flavorful column, “Wine Words,” in the Healdsburg Tribune for almost 30 years.
Her passion for the decades of our local wine history — the stories and memorabilia — was the driving force behind the founding of the Sonoma County Wine Library in 1985. Through Millie’s dedication and fund-raising, the Wine Library moved into its permanent home in the new Healdsburg Regional Library in 1988.
To celebrate Millie Howie’s, 100-year birthday anniversary we invite you to remember and honor her memory with us on June 13th with a “Toast to Millie” on the Millie Howie Patio, just outside of the Wine Library at the Healdsburg Library. We’ll meet at 5pm, for Korbel California Champagne cheers and share stories and memories of Millie, the “patron saint” of the Wine Library.
Tickets for this event are available on the Wine Library Events page, and at the door. The $5.00 donation benefits the Millie Howie Century Fund.
Millie was instrumental in making sure the Wine Library was an important addition to the Sonoma County Regional Library system.
The mission of the Sonoma County Wine Library Association is to promote and further Millie’s vision.
We invite you to join us, and honor her legacy in the following ways:
